Delhi Capitals won a thrilling IPL 2025 contest against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday (March 24) at their adopted home ground in Visakhapatnam, thanks to a record-breaking last-wicket stand.

Chasing 210, DC collapsed to 65-5 and faced deeper trouble when Tristan Stubbs fell for 34 (22 balls). Debutant Vipraj Nigam sparked hope with a fiery 15-ball 39, but it was Ashutosh Sharma’s unbeaten 66 (31 balls) that sealed DC’s nail-biting victory.

Coming in as an Impact Player with DC still needing 145 off 80 balls having lost half of their side, Ashutosh started cautiously, scoring at a run a ball in his first 20 balls. Then he teed off, hitting 46 off the last 11 deliveries, his innings studded with five fours and as many sixes.

When DC lost their 10th wicket at 192-9 off the third ball of the 19th over, they were at risk of getting bowled out but No.11 batter Mohit Sharma kept his calm - sort of - giving the strike to Ashutosh with a few scares here and there. The last-wicket unbeaten stand of 19 runs between Ashutosh and Mohit is now the biggest in the tournament’s history in a one-wicket win.

Ashutosh’s knock is the second-highest score in a successful IPL chase batting at 7 or below. Andre Russell also scored 66 to help the Kolkata Knight Riders chase Kings XI Punjab’s (now Punjab Kings) 155-9 in IPL 2015. The record is held by Dwayne Bravo who scored 68 off 30 to power Chennai Super Kings to a thrilling one-wicket win in the 2018 IPL.
