India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant took to social media on Thursday (September 26) to call out "fake news" regarding discussions over his IPL future.
Ahead of the latest season of the IPL, a mega-auction is set to take place later this year. The rules on player retentions and auction lists are set to be released shortly, meaning there has been speculation over several star players' futures.
On Friday, a viral post on X (formerly Twitter) claimed that Pant, currently the skipper of Delhi Capitals, had approached Royal Challengers Bengaluru earlier this week regarding a potential move as he saw a potential captaincy vacancy.
The post also stated that star player Virat Kohli did not want Pant at RCB, due to his "political tactics" in the Indian team as well as at Delhi Capitals. Posts of these nature by fans have been a feature on social media, often without any basis to them, with the aim of gaining impressions.
Pant: 'Don’t create an untrustworthy environment for no reason'
But this post received the following reply from Pant, who saw it fit to quash any rumours of the sort mentioned there, calling out the user for spreading fake news.
Pant returned to cricketing action in IPL 2024, following his life-threatening car accident in December 2022. He played the full season, and was then selected to represent India in the T20 World Cup, which they won. He made a comeback to red-ball cricket in the Duleep Trophy, before playing his first Test match in over two years., against Bangladesh in Chennai.
In the second innings of the Chennai Test, Pant scored 109 to make a grand return to the format. He is expected to be in India's playing XI for the second Test as well, as India eye a series whitewash in Kanpur.
