Jaiswal, who is the leading run-scorer in this year’s IPL, took the attack to the part-time off-spin of Nitish Rana after the KKR captain opted to open the bowling as his side sought to defend 149.

The 21-year-old opener started the Royals innings by hitting consecutive sixes off Rana’s off-spin, the first was a mighty blow over long-on after Jaiswal advanced down the ground while the second was a flat, swept six over long leg.

Jaiswal followed the two sixes by hitting back-to-back fours, the first through the covers and the next through point. He then finished the over with a two and a fifth boundary, this time a four to the left of point. Rana’s decision to open the bowling himself backfired spectacularly.

He went on to register the fastest fifty-ever scored in the history of the IPL, reaching the milestone off 13-balls in the third over of the chase. Lokesh Rahul was the previous record holder, having scored a 14-ball fifty in IPL 2018. Jaiswal’s innings was also the joint second fastest fifty in the history of T20 cricket. He missed out on the outright record by two balls, Yuvraj Singh’s 12-ball record still firmly in the top spot.
