Watch: Trent Boult picked up yet another wicket in the first over of an innings in the 2023 IPL against Gujarat Titans, latching onto an excellent rebound catch after it was almost spilt as three other fielders banged into each other, with the ball eventually nestling into the Kiwi speedster’s hands.
Boult, who has already bowled two double-wicket maidens in the opening over of an innings this season, got his team off to another excellent start after batter Wriddhiman Saha got a leading edge off a length ball. It went up miles in the air and was set to land mid-pitch but chaos ensued as three fielders – wicketkeeper Sanju Samson, Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer all went for the catch. All three had their eyes on the ball and seemingly did not hear each other’s calls, as they banged into one other.
Samson managed to get the gloves on the ball but was unable to hold onto it as Hetmyer and Jurel both bumped into him. The ball leapt out in front of him and would have been dropped if not for an alert Boult, who immediately stretched his arms to grab the ball.
