Kohli, alongside Faf du Plessis, had helped his side to 50-0 by the end of the seventh over after Asif had entered the attack.

With 8 runs off the over, Kohli charged down the track looking to increase his rate of scoring. The uncapped quick delivered a deceitful knuckle ball, back of a length, which Kohli duly chipped straight up in the air.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, star of the show against Kolkata Knight Riders with his record 13-ball fifty, calmly took the high catch.

It’s only Asif’s second wicket of the tournament in his fourth IPL appearance this year, and only his seventh ever IPL game.

After Kohli’s dismissal, Faf du Plessis reached fifty, but was dismissed by Asif once more, before Glenn Maxwell struck a 32-ball half-century.

The Rajasthan Royals attack remained disciplined throughout, Adam Zampa finishing with 2-25 from his four sets, and Asif re-entered the attack to bowl the final over.

He conceded consecutive maximums by Anuj Rawat in a costly 18-run over, as RCB battled their way to a competitive 167-5. Asif finished with figures of 2-42 from 4 overs, despite his impressive start.
