Watch: Shubman Gill hit a ridiculous one-legged pull shot for six during his third hundred in four innings in the IPL 2023 Qualifier between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians today (May 26).
The outrageous shot came when Gill had already passed the three-figure landmark, and was looking to advance at the back end of Gujarat’s innings. With Australia allrounder Cameron Green bowling, the 23-year-old had already taken two boundaries in consecutive balls off his over – a six over long on followed by a four through deep midwicket.
Not content with the two, Gill lined up for another maximum next ball. As Green bowled another short ball into the deck, Gill advanced down the wicket. The ball seemingly got big on him as it bounced up towards his head and threatened his top edge. But, Gill bowed his head and swatted the ball away, lifting one leg off the ground in the process and hopping with the other as he made contact with the ball.
Despite seemingly not having got a full connection, the ball flew over the off side and sailed over the long on fence, giving Gill a tenth six of the innings.
On commentary, Ian Bishop exclaimed at the improvised shot: “Oh glorious, my goodness that’s the big side! It was as if he was at the ballet, light on his feet and a little swivel, Sunny, for six.”
The strike took Gill to 116, with still five overs left to bat. He was out in the 17th over for a monumental 129 at a strike rate of 215. Gujarat Titans went on to post 233-3 from their 20 overs before bowling Mumbai Indians out for 171 to secure their spot in Sunday’s final.
