Shardul Thakur scored a remarkable 29-ball 68 to rescue KKR from a precarious position in their clash against RCB today at Eden Gardens, catapulting them to a competitive final total of 204-7.

After Karn Sharma dismissed Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Andre Russell in consecutive deliveries, KKR were left reeling on 89-5 in the twelfth over when Thakur strolled out to the crease.

Despite the extent of KKR’s troubles, Thakur attacked from the get go, taking four runs off his first ball, an inside edge off Sharma.

Thakur then took three boundaries – including a six – off his first full over at the crease, before hitting Michael Bracewell for successive sixes two overs later. The India bowling all-rounder reached his first IPL fifty off 20 balls – the joint-fastest half-century of this year’s tournament so far.

Thakur eventually finished on 68 off 29 as KKR posted an imposing total of 204-7.
