MI had gotten off to a quick start, scoring 20-0 after two overs. Shami returned to bowl his second and the team’s third over. On the second ball of the over, he was dispatched over deep backward square leg by Ishan Kishan. In fact, it was only off the fifth ball that Kishan turned over the strike to his skipper.
Rohit seemed to show his hand early and backed away. Shami, looking at Rohit making a move, tried to go wider. The MI captain, though, was just too good on this occasion as he reached out, got his hands through the ball and crunched it over the deep extra cover fence. Rohit has not been in great form this season but this shot showed that he can still hit good balls and bowlers for sixes comfortably.
The MI skipper stitched together a 61-run partnership with Kishan, which was cut short by Rashid Khan in the seventh over. While Rohit did not quite get the big score he was after, there were definitely glimpses in this knock that illustrated he is far from finished.
