The Australian all-rounder went from 45 to 82 in just eight balls, with four fours and eight sixes in the knock. Chris Jordan suffered the worst from Stoinis’ onslaught, taking 0-50 after his final over went for 24, taking LSG from a frustratingly low score in the middle over up to 177.

No other batter passed 50 for the hosts, with Krunal Pandya’s 49 the next highest score.

One highlight of the knock was a huge six hit over cow corner off the bowling of Hirthik Shokeen, as the 33-year-old made up for his side’s slow start that saw Deepak Hooda and Perak Mankad both dismissed for single-figure scores. Quinton de Kock hung around into the seventh over but failed to make much of an impact, as he was dismissed for 16 off 15 balls.

Stoinis’ innings-salvaging knock continues a good run of form with the bat. He has passed fifty three times in his last 10 innings for the Super Giants, in a campaign that has given Lucknow an excellent chance of making the playoffs with two games remaining.

A win today would see them leapfrog their opponents Mumbai into third place, and leave them three points clear of fifth place Royal Challengers Bangalore.
