Watch: Jason Roy continued his fine run in IPL 2023 with a fierce powerplay assault, hitting four sixes off one Shahbaz Ahmed over on his way to a 22-ball fifty, during today’s IPL 2023 match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders.

By the time the powerplay ended, Roy had reached his third 40-plus score in a row, having made a belated entry into the tournament as a replacement for Shakib Al Hasan.

Back to opening, after a demotion to No.5 in the last game owing to a finger injury, Roy did the bulk of scoring alongside his more sedate partner N Jagadeesan.

Most of the damage came in the sixth over, when Shahbaz Ahmed’s left-arm spin went for 25 runs. It was the second-most expensive powerplay over in IPL 2023 and included four sixes off Roy’s bat, three of which came in a row.

At the end of the powerplay mark, RCB’s score stood at 66-0.

Just last month, Roy hit a record-breaking 145*, described by himself as “his best T20 innings”.

He was eventually cleaned up by a Vyshak Vijaykumar yorker, finishing on a 29-ball 56, four fours and five sixes included.
