Watch: MS Dhoni smashed two sixes in his first two deliveries during the last over of a 2023 IPL clash against Lucknow Super Giants today (April 3), as he continues to roll back the clock in the ongoing edition.

The Chennai wicketkeeper started the IPL with a quickfire unbeaten cameo of 14 in 7 deliveries during the opener on Friday against Gujarat Titans, and continued in the same vein on Monday as well, sending the first two balls that he faced for two maximums, leaving the jam-packed crowd on their feet.

The 41-year-old, playing only his second professional game since May 2022, walked into bat with four deliveries to spare after Mark Wood dismissed Ravindra Jadeja. The first ball that Dhoni faced was a 148.7kmph rocket, which was flashed hard by Dhoni for a 69-metre helicopter six over third. A bigger six followed on the very next delivery as Dhoni managed to get his hands on a shorter ball outside the outside off, slamming it over deep square leg to race away to 12 in two.

Strangely, Dhoni attempted to review the ball for a wide, despite wides not being possible when a batter gets bat on ball. He was unable to continue the carnage as Wood got the CSK skipper with a 151.2kmph delivery next up. Dhoni’s three-ball cameo helped Chennai post 217-7 on the board. He currently has 26 runs in two innings in the 2023 IPL, in 10 deliveries, at a strike rate of 260.
