Gill, who has been in sensational form, scoring three hundreds in his last four games before the clash with CSK on Monday, was dropped by Chahar when he was on three. In the second over, Tushar Deshpande sent down a fuller-length delivery, which the batter played straight to the fielder at backward square. Chahar was unable to latch on, dropping a sitter, to give the in-form Gill another chance.

Gill had been dropped by Tim David in Qualifier 2 as well when he was on 30. It proved costly, as the opener went on to score 99 more runs, taking GT to a huge score of 233-3, which eventually proved too steep for the Mumbai Indians.

Following the drop against CSK, Gill took an aggressive approach, eventually making 39 in only 20 balls to give his team a flying start. He was dismissed after a lightning-quick stumping by MS Dhoni, who is playing his 250th IPL game.
