IPL 2023 has been widely considered to be Dhoni’s swansong. Soon to turn 42, and four years into international retirement, Dhoni – who is carrying a knee injury during the tournament – is speculated to hang his boots at the end of the season. Earlier, the World Cup-winning captain had hinted that he’d like to retire in front of CSK fans at the Chepauk at some point in the future.

At the toss, Dhoni was asked by presenter Danny Morrison about this being his farewell season: “Clearly, this wonderful swansong tour, your last – how are you enjoying it?”

“Well, you have decided it’s my last,” replied Dhoni, smiling.

“You’re gonna come back, aren’t you?” Morrison laughed. “I love it, so you’re coming back.”

“He’s gonna come back, okay?” Morrison turned to the crowd and said. “He’s coming back to play next year!”

Dhoni did not respond to the statement, only smiling before walking away.

Chennai Super Kings are slated to play three matches at their home ground in Chepauk. The Qualifier and Eliminator will also be held in Chennai.
