Watch: At the Arun Jaitley Stadium, David Warner imitated Ravindra Jadeja’s sword celebrations – at Jadeja himself.
Chasing 224 against the Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals lost Prithvi Shaw in the second over. captain Warner and Phil Salt continued cautiously, and Delhi reached 15-1 after four overs.
Warner then cut loose against Deepak Chahar, taking him for six and four off the first two balls of the next over. He pushed the next ball to extra-cover and scampered for a single.
Moeen Ali threw the ball, and would probably have run Warner out had he hit the stumps. As Ajinkya Rahane backed up, Warner got up and turned around, tempting Rahane to try and run him out.
Rahane threw, and this time Jadeja backed up. As Warner decided to bait Jadeja, one of the finest fielders in contemporary cricket, Jadeja pretended to throw.
Warner paused and brandished his bat like a sword, mimicking Jadeja’s celebrations when the latter reaches a landmark while batting. Both men laughed, and all was well.
An unperturbed Chahar took out Salt and Rilee Rossouw with his next two balls, leaving Delhi reeling at 26-3. At the time of writing, Delhi were 112-5 in 14.1 overs, with Warner (71) and Aman Khan (1) at the crease.
