Sunrisers Hyderabad will begin their IPL 2023 campaign on home turf against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday (April 2) – here’s their predicted XI for the match, along with tournament prediction, squad and schedule.
After finishing dead last in the 2021 tournament, Sunrisers Hyderabad showed a small improvement last year to finish eighth in the ten-team league. They lost five matches back to back in the latter stages of the league stage which prevented them from qualifying for the knockouts.
They have a new captain in Aiden Markram this year after Kane Williamson was released following poor returns in 2022. Markram, along with the rest of Sunrisers’ South Africa contingent, will not be available for the side’s opening match as South Africa conclude an ODI series against the Netherlands.
Sunrisers have also appointed a new head coach in their overhaul before this season, Brian Lara replacing Tom Moody at the helm. Harry Brook, Mayank Agarwal, Heinrich Klaasen and Adil Rashid were their significant purchases in this year’s auction.

Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL 2023 team news
The side will have to make do without Markram, Jansen and Klaasen for at least the first match. They are set to arrive in India only the day before the opening fixture in Hyderabad. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will captain the side in Markram’s absence.
The absence of the South Africa players means Sunrisers Hyderabad will only have five overseas players to choose from in their first match of the season.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: IPL 2023 prediction
While there is a lot of exciting talent in the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad, that won’t necessarily translate into a title winning bid. They will rely heavily on their overseas players, several of whom have limited IPL experience. While they may struggle to contend this year, it could still be a transformational year for Sunrisers Hyderabad going forward into the years to come.
