Lucknow and Mumbai finished third and fourth respectively on the points table. Both teams had the same number of wins in the league stage – eight – but Lucknow got an extra point due to a washout. They also had superior net run rate.

They will now face off in the Eliminator in Chennai. The winner of the game will play Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad on Friday (May 26), while the loser gets knocked out of the tournament.

Lucknow had finished third on the points table in 2022 as well, and lost the Eliminator against Royal Challengers Bangalore. They will be aiming to go one up tonight and get closer to the trophy in just their second season in the IPL.

Mumbai, on the other hand, have qualified for the playoffs for the tenth time in 16 seasons. They already have five IPL trophies and will be looking to a step towards their sixth tonight.

These two teams met once in the league stage of IPL 2023, in Lucknow. LSG won the game by five runs, preventing Mumbai from chasing 178. In fact, Lucknow have won all three matches between the two sides in the IPL so far, a streak Mumbai will love to end.

The powerful, skilled middle-order batters from both teams will be the players to watch out for tonight – Marcus Stoinis, Nicholas Pooran, Suryakumar Yadav, Cam Green, and Tim David.

The two leg-spinners, Piyush Chawla of Mumbai and Ravi Bishnoi of Lucknow, will also have a lot of focus on them as conditions are expected to spin.
