The IPL 2023 final between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings came under a late rain threat. Here are the latest updates from the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad, including scenarios for what happens if the CSK vs GT match gets rained out.
CSK vs GT: Weather updates – Rain hits Ahmedabad
Our man on the ground Aadya Sharma reports: It first started drizzling around 6.20pm IST when they got the first set of covers in. Around 6.30pm, it started pouring.
That was when the main covers were brought in, and the rain forced the spectators in the uncovered areas to run for cover. It turned much heavier post 6.40pm.
The main covers were brought by the ground staff, some of whom set up camp around the tarpaulin under umbrellas, hoping for things to improve. However, the rain only got heavier as the clock passed 7pm IST, the scheduled time for the toss. Rumbling thunder and lightning added to the entire picture.

Rain had also affected the GT vs MI Qualifier 2 game at the same ground on May 26, forcing it to have a delayed start. However, when rain relented the match started without any overs getting lost.
Various weather reports indicate that there could be rain till 9pm.

CSK vs GT, final: What happens if the rain washes out the match?
The document for weather or other conditions interfering with playoff matches hasn’t been updated on the IPL website, with the document still containing details of IPL 2022 matches.
According to Cricinfo, there will not be any lost overs till 9.35pm IST.
The latest cutoff for a five-over match to start is 12.06am IST.
A reserve day has been kept as well – on May 29. If no play is possible, then the action will shift to reserve day. In case there is some cricket tonight before the match gets rained off, the match will “be completed” – in other words, the match will resume from where it finishes tonight.
