There is little to dispute the claim that Jadeja is among the elite of cricket’s fielding community. Seldom has a cricketer shown as much consistency with their catching and fielding as the India all-rounder, who continues to find ways to mesmerise audiences with his remarkable agility and accuracy.
During an IPL 2017 game between Jadeja’s Gujarat Lions and the Delhi Daredevils at Kanpur, the left-arm spinner was in his true element, prowling the backward point area and letting nothing past him. Off the final ball of the 10th over, Shreyas Iyer made the folly of challenging Jadeja’s arm in his attempt to steal a quick single, leaving Marlon Samuels to deal with a rocket throw from Jadeja. In one quick motion, Jadeja hurled a one-bounce, sidearm throw to clean up the stumps.

Two overs later, Iyer at the non-striker’s end and having learnt his lesson, saw Corey Anderson tap a ball to backward point and head out, and instantly asked the batsman to return to safety. Anderson, though, had walked too far out, by which time Jadeja had already swooped in, picked up the ball, and fired it onto the stumps. The Kiwi all-rounder tried to rush back in, but replays showed that Jadeja had once again trumped with his throw.
The two sensational fielding bits weren’t enough to win them the game though; Iyer’s 96 helped Delhi chase down 196 with two balls and two wickets to spare.
