Having chopped on facing the bowling of Amit Mishra, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant calmly collected the ball and rolled it back to the bowler. He smiled as he walked up to the leg-spinner and lobbed the ball to the umpire, but barely seemed like he was celebrating.
Meanwhile, the commentators discussed the virtue of a wrist-spinner bowling a yorker-type delivery, and it was only as Kishan neared the boundary that they realised something was afoot.
“Ooh, he’s walking,” said Danny Morrison. “What have we missed here? We got so excited about the yorker.”
Replays confirmed Kishan had played on, and the India batsman had to go. At least the philosophical question was answered. If you’re bowled, and no one notices, are you really out? The answer, unfortunately for Kishan and Mumbai Indians, is yes.
