Smith, who has only ever bowled two balls in his entire IPL career way back in 2012, started off his career with the national team as a leg-spinner before becoming a top-order batter of renown.
He has 54 wickets in T20 cricket and last bowled in the 2019 Bangladesh Premier League. He went wicketless in the solitary over he bowled then, but in 2018 had picked up three wickets in the Caribbean Premier League.
With the Chepauk surface slow and low, even more than usual, Delhi might be thinking of giving Smith an odd over in the game against Sunrisers. Spinners have enjoyed massive success at the venue this year with Delhi’s own Amit Mishra returning with a four-wicket haul in the win over Mumbai Indians.
