With CSK live-streaming one of their pre-IPL 2021 nets sessions, fans got a chance to see how their favourite players and new recruits were tracking ahead of the new season. However, it was a bowler not on the CSK roster that caught the eye, rushing the batsmen for pace, squaring them up with movement, and nailing his yorkers.

There was a scramble to find out more about the tyro, with it revealed that the quick in question was in fact 20-year-old Afghan seamer Fazhalhaq Farooqi. The youngster made his national debut last month, taking 1-27 in a hefty win over Zimbabwe, keeping his economy down despite bowling at the top and the death, and claiming a wicket with his fifth ball in international cricket. He also impressed at the 2020 Under 19 World Cup, taking 3-33 in Afghanistan’s last clash of the tournament, helping skittle South Africa for 154.

With CSK searching for a replacement for Josh Hazlewood, citing bubble fatigue, could Farooqi be a bolter for a contract? From the looks of it, he could hardly have done more to put his case forward.
