Watch: Pat Cummins was on the losing side when Kolkata Knight Riders played Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday, but he didn’t go down without a fight.
A chase of 221 seemed to be dead and buried when Andre Russell departed for 54 to leave KKR 112-6, but Cummins kept his side’s hopes alive until the final over, smashing an unbeaten 66 off just 34 balls.
Sam Curran in particular came in for some real punishment at the hands of the Australia quick, with the England all-rounder’s third over conceding 30 runs. Cummins was the batsman at the other end for all six deliveries, launching four sixes and a four in the over.
The run out of Prasidh Krishna in the final over of the game meant CSK were winners in the end, but Cummins came away from the encounter with his reputation as a handy lower-order hitter enhanced.
