Watch: Delhi Capitals’ newly-appointed captain Rishabh Pant was in his element during the team practice session ahead of their second IPL 2021 game, unleashing fierce strikes with the bat in the middle.
Pant, who was named Delhi captain in the absence of the injured Shreyas Iyer, led the Capitals to a win in their opening match against Chennai Super Kings, staying unbeaten on a 12-ball 15 in a 189-run chase.
Ahead of their next fixture against Rajasthan Royals, Pant seems to be in his groove already. In a practice video posted by Delhi Capitals, the 23-year-old is seen unleashing his typically aggressive batting style, challenging his team’s bowlers by taking the aerial route.
Here’s the complete IPL 2021 schedule, along with TV and live streaming details.
The first shot in the video, presumably off a spinner, is a lofted drive off one knee that travels far, and ends up crashing into the stadium’s pavilion windows, accompanied by a wild response from his teammates.
The next stroke, off a seamer, is a swivel-pull that crashes onto the roof of the team dugout, sending the onlooking teammates and support staff for cover.
Pant, one of only three batsmen in the history of the Delhi franchise to total 2,000 IPL runs for the team (after Shreyas Iyer and Virender Sehwag) is coming on the back of sensational Test series against Australia and England, where he established himself as their first-choice wicketkeeper in the format. By taking DC’s leadership role, Pant became the fifth-youngest IPL captain of all time.
Here’s Pant, in destructive mode, ahead of their next IPL game:
This makes us wonder how much trouble @RishabhPant17 got into as a kid for destroying property in his neighbourhood 🙃#YehHaiNayiDilli #IPL2021 #DCOnThePitch @OctaFX pic.twitter.com/c6z3roiFux
