A short video compiled by the IPL franchise shows the 40-year-old taking on the nets bowlers in the UAE, unleashing his typically belligerent strokes, especially on the leg side.

“I was supposed to play four balls… ended up playing 14,” Dhoni is heard saying, as he walks off after a quick batting session with the team at the ICC Academy. However, the session doesn’t really end for the former India captain, who gets rid of his batting equipment to pursuit the practice balls he sent over the boundary.

The video captures Dhoni walking through bushes with a bat in hand, searching for the missing balls. He’s joined by his CSK teammates as he forages through the foliage looking for shiny white cork, before walking back into the arena.

CSK are currently placed second on the points table, having notched five wins in seven games in the first half of IPL 2021, which had to be suspended due to the impact of Covid-19. The remaining games will be played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. CSK will feature in the first game of the second leg, taking on defending champions Mumbai Indians on September 19 in Dubai.
