Dhoni, who turns 40 this year, retired from international cricket in 2020 after almost a year in hibernation, returning to captain CSK at last season’s IPL. It turned out to be one of the worst seasons in the franchise’s history as they finished seventh in the points table, failing to qualify for the play-offs for the first time.
It was the first time that Dhoni had failed to garner 250 runs in a season, finishing with exactly 200 runs @ 25.00 without a fifty (also for the first time in an IPL season). However, he quelled all doubts of possible retirement, declaring that he would return to captain the side in 2021.
Ahead of this year’s IPL, Dhoni and team have been practising at the CSK camp ahead of their opening game against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on April 10.
In the video compiled by the Twitter account ‘CSK Fan Army’, Dhoni is seen unleashing some of his signature strokes – the fierce leg-side swipes, the thump down the ground, as well as the slog sweeps, to name a few.
If the video is any indication, Dhoni seems to be in the groove to help reclaim CSK’s lost touch, and show fans he’s still got it with the bat.
