In the eighth game of their campaign, CSK took on Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. Coming in to bat after Shane Watson had laid a foundation for a strong finish, Rayudu and Dhoni had capitalised on the good start.
The duo added 79 runs in six overs, taking CSK’s total above the 200-run mark. In an attempt to steal a run in the final over, Rayudu was run out in comical circumstances.
After Dhoni missed a bouncer from Trent Boult, Rishabh Pant flew to his left to catch the ball. In an attempt to get back on strike, Rayudu charged down the wicket. However, Dhoni had his back to him and by the time the CSK skipper realised what had happened, both players were on the same end of the pitch.
Once Pant threw the ball at the keeper’s end, Rayudu tried to run back to the non-striker’s end. He almost made it, but not quite.
