Known more for his exploits against the red ball, Cheteshwar Pujara was a shock buy at the 2021 IPL auction.

Picked up by Chennai Super Kings for INR 50 lakh, Pujara hasn’t played in the IPL since 2014, when he hit 125 runs across six matches for Kings XI Punjab at an average of 25 and strike rate of 100.80.

Overall, Pujara has struggled for success in the IPL: across 30 matches in the tournament, he averages 20.52, with a strike rate below 100 and just one half-century to his name. He has made his name as a Test player with one of the broadest bats, having successfully blocked India to two consecutive series wins in Australia.

So it may surprise some to learn that Pujara has reached three figures in T20 cricket, a feat he accomplished in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy two years ago. Notching a T20 century is something that has eluded some of the most attacking batsmen to have played the game, including Jos Buttler and Eoin Morgan.

Batting for Saurashtra against Railways, Pujara opened the batting and finished unbeaten on 100 off just 61 deliveries, smashing 14 fours and one six.
