Each team plays the remaining teams twice in the league stage, collecting two points every match for every win and zero for a loss.

The final of the tournament will be held at the Dubai International Stadium. The night games begin at 7.30pm IST, with 31 matches in all spread over a length of 27 days. The IPL will be closely followed by the T20 World Cup, which begins on October 17.

The 14th edition of the tournament, IPL 2021, has the usual eight teams with the top four in the points table after the league phase to qualify for the play-offs. The qualifier will have the first and second playing each other with the winner sent through to the final.

The third and fourth teams play the eliminator with the loser eliminated from the tournament. The winner of the eliminator and the losing team in the qualifier play the second eliminator and the winners will face the winners from the first qualifier in the finals.
