CSK completed their fifth consecutive win in the tournament, reclaiming their place at the top of the IPL points table. SRH, on the other hand, stayed at the bottom of the pile, having now lost five games out of six.

At the centre of CSK’s triumph was a solid opening partnership from Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who combined for a 129-run opening stand in pursuit of CSK’s target of 172. Rashid Khan claimed all three wickets, but his effort could not prevent Chennai to reach the finishing line with nine balls to spare.

With the win, CSK displaced RCB to reach the top of the points table, and currently have a net run-rate of +1.475, the highest for any team in the competition so far. SRH continued to be at the bottom of the stack, with two points from six games and a net run-rate of -0.264.

CSK’s next contest is against defending champions Mumbai Indians on May 1, while SRH will take on Rajasthan Royals on May 2.
