IPL 2021, the 14th edition of Indian Premier League, is expected to begin next month: here’s a look at the Delhi Capitals team preview, as the Shreyas Iyer-led DC side aim to go one step better this season after losing the final to MI last year.
Delhi Capitals came within inches of clinching a maiden Indian Premier League title in 2020 when they reached the finals against all odds and before losing to Mumbai Indians. Over the last few seasons, Delhi has undergone massive changes to their core group and it has reaped rich rewards for them.
IPL 2021 DC team preview
Delhi Capitals released as many as six players ahead of the IPL 2021 auction and went on to build more core strength with some tactical purchases in the auction. Umesh Yadav and Vishnu Vinod fill slots that were vacated by some of the released players. Steve Smith, arguably a buy to strengthen the experience in the middle-order, is possibly the only suspect purchase even if it came at a decent price.
In the list of players retained, Delhi have shown that they want to stick to their fast bowling strength. As well as Kagiso Rabada, Ishant Sharma and Anrich Nortje, they also retained Chris Woakes and Avesh Khan while bringing in Lukman Meriwala and Tom Curran to further build bench strength.
