Team Preview: IPL 2021 is all set to resume action on September 19. Chennai Super Kings, currently sit at the second spot on the points table. The MS Dhoni-led CSK side are strong contenders to make the IPL play-offs this year.
IPL 2020 was a disaster for the CSK, as they failed to make the play-offs of the IPL for the first time. They finished at the seventh place on the IPL points table.
Though, the team began the 2021 IPL season with a 7-wicket loss, they soon bounced back and at present, have 10 points from seven matches.
IPL 2021 CSK team preview
Going into this year’s IPL, Chennai Super Kings had lost Shane Watson, who retired, and had pertinent issues in the middle-order heading into the auction. However, they showed faith in their side and retained the core of their squad. The big guns were retained for the upcoming season despite the odd season they had in UAE.
They sought to address the issues of the previous season by acquisition of Moeen Ali, Krishnappa Gowtham and Cheteshwar Pujara. And so far these calls have worked like a charm. Ravindra Jadeja continued the destructive form he had shown with the bat in UAE last year, while his bowling returns also improved. Faf Du Plessis and Moeen Ali have also done well in their respective departments.
The best thing for CSK is that they walk in to the UAE leg of the IPL with no changes to their squad. While, there are some questions over availability of Faf Du Plessis’s injury, CSK would hope that he is fit for majority of the second half of the IPL.
