An incredulous fielding effort by Mayank Agarwal in the tied game between Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians is being hailed as ‘the save of IPL 2020’, in a tournament that has already witnessed some breathtaking fielding, including Nicholas Pooran’s ‘unbelievable’ save.
Fielding at deep mid-wicket in the second super over of the game (after the first one was tied), Mayank came into action when Kieron Pollard swatted a low full-toss towards him. The ball seemed to have enough on it to sail over the fielder’s reach, but Mayank managed to leap full length, grabbing the ball with both hands and parrying it back onto play while still falling back.
Given the situation of the game and the athleticism and presence of mind on display, Twitter was flooded with comments on his clutch boundary save.

Mayank Agarwal you absolute gun. What a save, this could've easily gone for SIX, but look at those efforts from Agarwal. pic.twitter.com/d48bJAlc3H

It saved a sure-shot six, keeping Mumbai Indians down to 11-1 off six balls. Moments later, Mayank was padded up, walking out to open alongside Chris Gayle. He hit the winning runs to complete Kings XI Punjab’s win, possibly keeping them alive in the competition with his ‘basketball save’.
