Continuing the trend of great catches in this IPL, Mumbai Indians batsman Suryakumar Yadav plucked a blinder at backward point on Friday, leaving the bowler Trent Boult open-mouthed in amazement.
While there has been a considerable number of dropped chances this season, players have latched onto some absolute worldies and the fielding levels seem to be touching new heights.
In the Mumbai Indians-Kolkata Knight Riders game in Abu Dhabi, the 30-year-old Suryakumar showcased his remarkable reflexes when he caught Rahul Tripathi in the third over of KKR’s innings.
With ample width on offer, Tripathi, on seven, attempted to smack a short-pitched delivery from Boult past point, but the full-blooded cut stroke wasn’t placed as well as he would have wanted to.
The ball rocketed towards Suryakumar, who somehow had the time to lift himself off the air and grab the ball just above his head. It was a remarkable reflex action, leaving the commentators impressed, just as much as Boult, who was couldn’t hide his astonishment.
“Look at it as long as you want, it’s already going down as one of the catches of the season” said Harsha Bhogle on air. So should you:
