Rohit Sharma, captain of defending champions Mumbai Indians, hasn’t entirely ruled out the likelihood of IPL 2020 taking place.
The 13th edition of the world’s biggest T20 tournament was put off from its original start date of March 29 to April 15. But with all of India in a lockdown until the 14th of April, and the possibility of it being extended, chances of the season getting underway anytime soon are bleak.

Rohit, however, is optimistic that if the situation with the coronavirus settles down at some point, there might still be a possibility of squeezing in an IPL season. Replying to a question from former England batsman Kevin Pietersen, who asked him if he sees the tournament happening, on Instagram, Rohit replied: “At some stage, when things settle down, it might happen, who knows.”
The Board of Control for Cricket in India is working in collaboration with the sports ministry and has assured that all health guidelines set forward by the government will be followed and factored in while making a decision on the tournament.
