Mitchell Marsh, the Australia all-rounder, is stuck in the UAE after an ankle injury ended his IPL 2020 campaign for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). CA, BCCI and IPL are working to get him back home.
Marsh hurt his ankle while following through on a delivery during SRH’s loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their campaign opener on Monday. The injury ruled him out for the rest of IPL 2020, with SRH calling up West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder as his replacement.
In normal circumstances, Marsh would have left Dubai for his home town of Perth as soon as possible. However, given the logistical challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, Marsh’s situation is uncertain.

According to The Age, CA are in discussions with the BCCI and IPL to organise Marsh’s return home. All the 19 Australian players taking part in the IPL, including Marsh, are set to fly back home after the tournament ends on November 10 on a chartered flight.

However, while Marsh now needs a commercial flight to travel back, there are few options available. There are challenges even after returning to Australia, with Marsh facing the prospect having to quarantine for 14 days at the Adelaide Oval hotel, and another 14 days once he reaches Perth.
Marsh’s injury was one of several blows SRH suffered on a poor opener to their IPL 2020 campaign. SRH looked on course for victory, at 121-2 chasing 164, but a shocking batting collapse meant they were bundled out for 153, losing eight wickets for just 32 runs.
