Normally, there is nothing better to watch as a cricket fan than Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers batting together in the middle, peppering the boundary and running fielding sides ragged.
However, in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s game against Chennai Super Kings, some onlookers could barely stand to watch during their 82-run partnership, with their kit rated an eyesore by many.
Since 2011, RCB have donned a green kit once a season to spread awareness of the ‘Go Green’ initiative, an environmental campaign to encourage recycling, conservation, and planting trees. It’s not just the message that is laudable, but the shirts themselves, which are made of recycled plastic.
However, while Kohli’s side deserve praise for the intent behind the lime-green outfit, some fans simply couldn’t look past the aesthetic, especially when RCB were batting, with the kit colour clashing with the red pads and gold helmets of the batsmen.

RCB have a mixed history wearing the alternative kit. It was in green that Kohli and de Villiers put on a mammoth 229-run stand in 2016, with both hitting centuries. At the time, it was the highest ever T20 stand. However, they have only won two out of 10 games in green, with 2020 continuing the trend. CSK, propping up the table, managed a comfortable eight-wicket win with eight balls remaining.
