A player featuring in IPL 2020, following BCCI’s anti-corruption protocol, has “reported a corrupt approach” during the tournament in UAE.
According to PTI, the player “immediately sensed something fishy” and alerted the anti-corruption unit. BCCI’s anti-corruption unit chief Ajit Singh Shekhawat has said that the threat is “still being tracked” and the search “will take time some time”.
Due to the existing bio-secure protocols within the tournament, suspicious approaches to players is difficult, with more importance being given to track online threats to players during the tournament.

All players, including the U19 batch, goes through regular anti-corruption classes, which are being held virtually this time due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.
“The player knows the person,” Shekhawat told Indian Express, “and the good part is that the player still came forward to inform us that a known person has contacted him to get some information. Probably, the person wanted to place bets.”
“It (the approach) was done through social media. There was some person whom he (the player) knew. He asked for some information and the player immediately said no.
“The player found it suspicious and informed this to the team management. We were then informed about it. We will investigate it as we have received the complaint.”
