England’s limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan was picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 5.25 crore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 auction on Thursday.
He was the second name announced at the auction and immediately commanded bids from KKR and Delhi Capitals. The two sides kept making incremental bids until Delhi refused to go past Kolkata’s bid of INR 5.25 cr.
Morgan has played for several IPL sides in the past, including Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab, but it was with KKR that he had his longest stint, playing 26 matches for the side after being picked up in the 2011 auction.
Eoin Morgan is the next name out of the bag!
Plenty excited. Kolkata and Delhi are in a bidding war, and the England captain’s price quickly rises to INR 5.25 crore, at which point Delhi drop out.
AND SOLD TO KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS!

Morgan has played a total of 52 IPL matches and scored 854 runs at an average of 21.35 with strike rate of 121.13.
Jason Roy another member of England’s 2019 World Cup-winning side, was sold to Delhi Capitals for INR 1.5 cr, and will be joined by Chris Woakes at the same side. Woakes, who has previously represented KKR and RCB, went for the same price as Roy.
Sam Curran was the next big-money signing from England, fetching a fee of INR 5.5 cr from Chennai Super Kings. Curran made his IPL debut for Kings XI Punjab last year after landing a INR 7.2 cr deal.
