An “unauthorised departure” from the bio-secure bubble in IPL 2020 could lead to a player being ousted from the tournament, according to a set of guidelines issued by BCCI, which explains the various penalties in place in UAE.
According to PTI, a notification was sent to the eight franchises, detailing the different stages of potential violations and the corresponding penalties in place.
How the violations work
If a player makes an ‘unauthorised departure’ from the bubble for the first time, he will have to undergo a six-day quarantine.

If it’s a second violation, the player will be handed a one-match suspension.
If it’s a third violation, the player will be ousted from the tournament, and no replacement will be provided.
Hefty fines for missing Covid-19 tests
Players, as well as the support staff, are scheduled to undergo a Covid-19 test every five days.
Players could be fined as much as 3,000 AED [INR 60,000] for:
1. Not completing their daily health passport
2. Not wearing a GPS tracker
3. Missing a scheduled Covid-19 test

IPL 2020 teams to face penalties for unauthorised bio-bubble breaches
Along with the players, the teams too will face heavy penalty if the bio-bubble is punctured. If any person is allowed to enter the bubble to interact with players or support staff, the franchise will have to cough up as much as INR 1 crore for the first violation.
For a second violation, one point will be deducted from the team’s points tally in the tournament.
For a third violation, two points will be deducted from the team’s points tally (equivalent to one win) in the tournament.
Teams will also face an enquiry from BCCI if there are repeated health and safety violations during the course of the tournament.
What happens if there aren’t enough players?
If there are less than 12 players available and a team is not able to form a playing XI, the BCCI will look to reschedule a game.
If rescheduling is not possible, the match will be deemed lost.
