Jos Buttler, the England wicketkeeeper-batsman, has confirmed that he will miss Rajasthan Royals’ opening game of IPL 2020 against Chennai Super Kings because he is quarantining with his family in Dubai.
In an Instagram live for Rajasthan Royals, Buttler confirmed his unavailability for the team’s first game in the 2020 IPL on September 22 in Sharjah.
“I am unfortunately going to miss the first [ IPL ] match for Rajasthan,” Buttler said. “I am going to be doing my quarantine. I am here with my family – which is great that the Royals have allowed me to have my family out here. It would be a huge help in lockdown, having my family with me.”

England and Australia players, who arrived in UAE after their limited-over series in UK, are undergoing varying periods of quarantine. The period was reduced to 36 hours for most players, which allowed Sam Curran to star in Chennai Super Kings’ tournament opener against Mumbai Indians. The trio of Tom Banton, Eoin Morgan and Pat Cummins, however, are set to undergo a six-day quarantine period, since their team Kolkata Knight Riders are based out of Abu Dhabi, where there are stricter quarantine protocols in place.
Jofra Archer and Steve Smith, also part of the Rajasthan Royals squad, cleared their mandatory Covid-19 tests on arrival, which made them available for selection for their opening game. It remains to be seen if Smith, who suffered from concussion in training earlier this week, will play the first game, since his availability will be subject to concussion protocols.
