The player auction for the 2020 edition of the IPL is set to be held on December 19 this year, with the venue shifted from Bangalore to Kolkata.
According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, each franchise will be allowed an additional INR 3 crore [£344,970] in their auction purse, which will be added to the balance in their kitties after the last auction. The original amount allotted for the 2020 auction was INR 85 crore [£9,775,171].
Taking that into account, Delhi Capitals have the biggest purse for the upcoming auction, at INR 8.2 crore [£942,872], while Royal Challengers Bangalore have the smallest at INR 1.8 crore [£206,972].

The purses of the rest of the teams are: Rajasthan Royals – INR 7.15 crore [£822,139], Kolkata Knight Riders – INR 6.05 crore [£695,656], Sunrisers Hyderabad – INR 5.3 crore [£609,418], Kings XI Punjab – INR 3.7 crore [£425,442], Chennai Super Kings – INR 3.2 crore [£367,950], Mumbai Indians – INR 3.05 crore [£350,703].
The upcoming IPL auction will be a short, one-day affair, with the auctions for the 2021 season involving a complete overhaul of teams. For the 2019 season, a total of 346 players went under the hammer, with teams spending a combined INR 106.80 crore [£12,282,215]. Kings XI Punjab spent the most at INR 32.50 crore [£3,715,490 approx], with Surrey all-rounder Sam Curran being their most expensive overseas buy at £800,000.

The trading window for this year will be closed on November 14. So far, there have been two transfers for the next season – Mayank Markande shifted from Mumbai Indians to Delhi Capitals, with Sherfane Rutherford going the other way.
There have been a number of coaching and support staff changes too, with certain franchises going for a complete overhaul. Royal Challengers Bangalore have overhauled their set-up, and will now be led by the South African Gary Kirsten, while Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders have found new head coaches in Trevor Bayliss and Brendon McCullum respectively.
