India Women have announced their squad for the upcoming ODI series against Australia starting December 5, leaving out Shafali Verma.
The Women’s Selection Committee named a 16-member squad captained by Harmanpreet Kaur with Smriti Mandhana acting as her deputy. One of the notable omissions from the group is swashbuckling opener Shafali Verma. Shafali had a poor outing at home against New Zealand, managing just 56 runs in three innings, resulting in her axing. In Shafali's absence, either Yastika Bhatia or Priya Punia is expected to open the innings with Mandhana.
Harleen Deol made a comeback to the side after a hiatus of almost a year due to injury. She last featured in a three-match ODI series against the same opponents at home last December.
The first two ODIs will be played at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane on December 5 and 8, respectively, followed by the third match in Perth on December 11.

The series is a part of the ICC Women’s Championship, a pathway for direct qualification to the 2025 ODI World Cup. Each side will play eight three-match series. At the end of the cycle, the top five sides and hosts India will gain entry, while the rest of the five slots will depend on the results of the Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
