Indian opener Smriti Mandhana moved ahead of compatriot Mithali Raj for the most centuries in women's ODI cricket in the course of a victory over New Zealand on Tuesday.

Having won the first ODI between the sides by 59 runs, before losing the second by 76 runs, India went into the third and final game at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad with a chance to seal the series with a victory.

New Zealand skipper Sophie Devine elected to bat first, but saw her side slide to 88-5 as three of the top four – Suzie Bates, Lauren Down and Devine herself – were dismissed for single-digit scores. Wicketkeeper Izzy Gaze put on 64 for the sixth wicket with T20 World Cup final star Brooke Halliday (86) to resurrect the innings, before a few handy boundaries at the end from Lea Tahuhu helped the visitors muster 232.

In reply, India took control of the chase despite losing Shafali Verma early on. Partnerships of 76 and 117 for the second and third wickets saw them motor along to victory in the 45th over. Opener Smriti Mandhana scored exactly 100, her eighth ODI ton. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur remained unbeaten on 59.
