Watch: R Ashwin got rid of Glenn Phillips with a stunning carrom ball that turned a long way on day two of the Mumbai Test between India and New Zealand.
Having not had much success in the ongoing Test series against New Zealand, Ashwin turned up late on the second day in Mumbai. After taking a brilliant catch at long on to dismiss Daryl Mitchell, Ashwin was in the action with the ball a few overs later.
Glenn Phillips had arrived to the crease at No.7, at the fall of Tom Blundell's wicket in the 30th over, and had made his intentions clear from the word go. He hit a six off his second delivery, pulling a short ball by Washington Sundar over deep mid-wicket. Jadeja was then hit for a boundary over his head in the next over, before Ashwin was brought on from Sundar's end.
Ashwin tossed two of the first three deliveries up and Phillips needed no second invitation, slogging them for two sixes as he reached 22 off 12. The fourth ball turned down the leg side and brushed Phillips' pad along the way, leading to a discussion between the fielders for a potential review before they opted against it. It was then that Ashwin produced his moment of magic, on the fifth delivery.
Angled in from relatively wide of the crease, the full carrom ball drifted into Phillips' leg stump, pitched and turned away a proverbial mile to castle into his off, leaving him shell-shocked.
Soon after, Ashwin had more success with the carrom ball, dismissing the set Will Young six overs later, inducing a leading edge as he tried to flick a full ball on the pads away to the leg side.
New Zealand eventually ended the day on 171-9, with a lead of 143 runs.
