What's the latest team news for India vs New Zealand 2024 Tests?

India have retained most of the squad that played Bangladesh recently. Yash Dayal, who earned his maiden international call-up in the last series, has been released to play for Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy.

The home side has also named Jasprit Bumrah the vice-captain, indicating that the fast bowler might lead India if Rohit Sharma is later confirmed to miss the first Test against Australia in November. Mohammed Shami is yet to recover from a knee injury and hasn't been named in the side.

The series marks Tom Latham's first stint as full-time Test captain after Tim Southee stepped down from the position. Southee will compete with Matt Henry, Ben Sears and Will O’Rourke for a pacer’s spot in New Zealand's XI. In a major blow for the tourists, Kane Williamson is set to miss the start of the series due to a groin injury. Mark Chapman has been added as a cover.
