During the course of his unbeaten 72 in the second India vs England T20I in Chennai, Tilak Varma set a new world record.
India captain Suryakumar Yadav had chosen to put the visitors in to bat. England mustered 165-9 from their 20 overs, led by skipper Jos Buttler's 45, and a quickfire 31 off 17 balls from No.8 Brydon Carse.
In reply, the hosts were rocked early as Mark Wood and Jofra Archer got rid of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson respectively, in consecutive overs. A middle-order collapse then saw India stumble to 79-5 by the halfway stage.

Washington Sundar's cameo gave Tilak Varma, who had arrived at the fall of the first wicket in the second over, some support but once he and Axar Patel went quickly, it was up to the 22-year-old to bat with the tail and shepherd India over the line, which he did with four balls to spare.
How many runs has Tilak Varma scored since his last dismissal?
Tilak finished on 72 not out from 55 balls – his fourth successive unbeaten innings in T20 internationals. He had remained not out on 19 in the first T20I, and scored back-to-back centuries (120* & 107*) against South Africa prior to that.
It means that he has now scored 318 runs since he was last dismissed in the format, caught by David Miller off the bowling of Aiden Markram in Gqeberha in November. This is a new world record, overtaking the 271 runs between dismissals recorded by New Zealand's Mark Chapman in 2023.
The only other player to score over 250 runs between two dismissals is Cayman Islands' Sacha de Alwis, with 251 runs in four innings in 2024. In 2022, Canada's Hamza Tariq recorded 221 runs between dismissals, with six consecutive unbeaten innings in that run.
The highest run tally between dismissals which is still ongoing, after Tilak, is 142 runs by former Australian Test opener and current Italian international Joe Burns, with scores of 108* and 34* in his last two T20I innings against Romania and Turkey respectively, in June 2024.
