India completed a convincing 4-1 win in the T20I series against England - here are the player ratings for the hosts.
Abhishek Sharma: 10/10
279 runs @ 55.80, SR: 219.68
3 wickets @ 6.33, ER: 6.33
Abhishek was at his fiery best in the series, culminating in Mumbai's blistering ton. He was the highest run-scorer across five games for both sides, with Jos Buttler in second place, with 146 runs. His technique married well with his power-hitting - he struck above 150 in each of his five knocks, including above 200 thrice. He also picked up three wickets.
Sanju Samson: 1/10
51 runs @ 10.20, SR: 118.60
After a fine run in T20Is, Samson was found undone by high pace as he struggled to last beyond five overs in any game.
Tilak Varma: 7/10
133 runs @ 44.33, SR: 131.68
Although Tilak's unbeaten 72 at Chennai came at a strike rate of 130.91, which on paper could be seen as a potentially match-losing knock, it is important to consider the context of the situation. Chasing 166 on a tricky surface, India had been reduced to 126-7 but Tilak, batting at No.3, held fort before anchoring his side alongside Ravi Bishnoi to a memorable win. He did not stand up in the other games, but that knock saw his ratings soar.
Suryakumar Yadav: 2/10
28 runs @ 5.60, SR: 116.66
Yadav’s poor form with the bat continued as he managed a high score of 14 in the series. His captaincy, though, manoeuvring all his bowling resources and using them at the opportune moments, sees him get extra points.
Hardik Pandya: 7/10
112 runs @ 28, SR: 138.27
5 wickets @ 23, ER: 8.84
After failing to step up in the third T20I with the bat, where he made a 35-ball 40, Hardik turned it around in the next game, making 53 in 30 balls after a slow start. It helped guide India to 181 in an innings where six others did not cross five. He was expensive with the ball, though.
Shivam Dube: 9/10
83 runs @ 41.50, SR: 176.59
2 wickets @ 5.50, ER: 5.50
Dube played the last two games and proved why he deserves a spot in the team. He made a quick 53 at Pune before smacking a 13-ball 30 at Mumbai. He also dismissed Phil Salt and Jacob Bethell to dent England’s chances.
Rinku Singh: 2/10
39 runs @ 19.50, SR: 121.87
Rinku batted in only two innings but was not able to show off his skills. He struggled during his 26-ball 30 at Pune before being dismissed for nine at Mumbai.
Washington Sundar: 1/10
32 runs @ 16, SR: 94.11
1 wicket @ 24, ER: 12
Sundar’s contributions were limited - he made a painstaking 6 in 15 balls in the third T20I, a game after scoring 26 in 19 at No.7. He also sent down just two overs and was dropped subsequently.
Axar Patel: 7/10
6 wickets @ 16.50, ER: 7.07
The newly-appointed vice-captain picked up two wickets apiece in the first two games, bowling economically. India did not need his services with the ball in the Mumbai T20I.
Ravi Bishnoi: 5/10
5 wickets @ 26.40, ER: 7.76
Largely economical, Bishnoi’s best performance was in the fourth T20I where he ended with 3-28 in his four overs, sending back Ben Duckett and Buttler in successive overs before also accounting for Jofra Archer.
Dhruv Jurel: 1/10
6 runs @ 3, SR: 66.66
Jurel was demoted to No.8 in the third T20I but could only score two in four. A game earlier, he had made four.
Mohammed Shami: 4/10
3 wickets @ 16.66, ER: 9.09
Shami’s comeback was much-awaited after a long layoff. He went wicketless in his first game, in Rajkot, but grabbed three in 2.3 overs in Mumbai.
Arshdeep Singh: 6/10
4 wickets @ 23, ER 7.88
Arshdeep has emerged as a reliable powerplay bowler - he was effective, picking up three scalps in seven overs and conceding runs at 7.71. He was stranded on 99 wickets after he was rested for the last game.
Varun Chakravarthy: 10/10
14 wickets @ 9.85, ER: 7.66
What a sensational comeback it has been for Chakravarthy, who left the opposition bamboozled and clueless. He was the only bowler to get more than 10 wickets from either team in the series.
Harshit Rana: 8/10
3 wickets @ 11, ER: 8.25
Rana’s debut came in controversial circumstances, but it should not take away from how well he bowled. England needed 88 to win in the last nine overs with seven wickets in hand when he was introduced: He sent back Liam Livingstone and Bethell in quick succession before accounting for Jamie Overton’s wicket.
*Nitish Kumar Reddy did not bat or bowl in the lone game he played.
