Adil Rashid crowned No.1 in T20Is, Varun Chakravarthy makes big leap

The latest update to the ICC T20I rankings on Wednesday (January 29) saw a leg-spinner reclaim the No.1 spot among bowlers, with significant moves elsewhere.

Rashid returns to No.1, Varun & Archer make big leaps

England's Adil Rashid rose back to the top of the bowling rankings following his performances against India in the ongoing T20I series between the sides. He was expensive in the first game, going for 27 runs in 2 overs but in the second and third matches of the series took 1-14 and 1-15 respectively, in four overs each.

Rashid had been the world's No.1 T20I bowler between December 2023 and November 2024, before being overtaken by West Indies' Akeal Hosein.

The other big movers in the bowling rankings were Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who has 10 wickets in three matches in the ongoing series. He moved up 25 spots to a career-high ranking of 5th. England pacer Jofra Archer also moved up 13 spots, to sixth place.

Tilak Varma hits another high

After his stellar knock of 72 in the second T20I against England in Chennai, Indian youngster Tilak Varma has moved up from third to second in the batting rankings, the highest rank of his short career thus far. His peak rating of 844 points is now higher than the likes of Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, Shane Watson and Chris Gayle.

Meanwhile, Sanju Samson tumbled 12 places in the rankings, from 17th to 29th after scores of 26, 5 & 3 in the ongoing series against England.
