Two India players made significant gains in the latest update to the ICC men's T20I player rankings, released on Wednesday (February 5).
Abhishek Sharma rises to career-high No.2
The biggest gain in the batting rankings went to Indian opener Abhishek Sharma, thanks in no small part to his extraordinary knock of 135 off just 54 balls in the fifth T20I against England on February 2.
Abhishek's rating rose by a staggering 280 points, from 549 to 829 – catapulting him to No.2 in the rankings, behind Australian opener and Sunrisers Hyderabad teammate Travis Head. Abhishek's rise has knocked fellow left-hander Tilak Varma down to No.3, but India still have three representatives in the top five, with captain Suryakumar Yadav in fifth place as well.
829 is a higher rating than the likes of Yuvraj Singh (Abhishek's mentor), Martin Guptill, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Joe Root and Jos Buttler have ever achieved.
Shivam Dube also rose the exact same number of placesas Abhishek, 38, to No.58 in the rankings, achieving a career-best rating of 484 points.
Varun Chakravarthy moves to joint-second, Adil Rashid loses top spot
Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy's 14 wickets in the five T20Is against England has helped him move up three spots, from fifth to joint-second in the bowling rankings. He is level with England rival Adil Rashid, who had reclaimed top spot last weekbut has now slipped 13 rating points. West Indies' Akeal Hosein is now the No.1 men's T20I bowler.
