India defeated England 4-1 in the sides' five-match T20I series which came to an end on Sunday (February 2). Here's how that result has affected the team rankings in the format.
India entered the final match of the series having already sealed the series. They pulled off a thumping win with Abhishek Sharma striking a 54-ball 135, the highest individual T20I score by an India batter.
Abhishek brought up his century off just 37 balls, two less than Rohit Sharma’s record 35-ball ton for India against Sri Lanka in 2017. The hosts piled on 247 on the board, having racked up their best powerplay score of 95-1 earlier.
England had to go hard immediately while chasing the daunting total. Phil Salt scored 55 off 23 but that was pretty much it for the visitors as Jacob Bethell was the only other batter to reach double figures. The tourists were skittled for 97 runs, succumbing to a 150-run defeat. This is their biggest loss in terms of runs.
With India's highest score and most sixes, Abhishek made history. Yet, in a game where records crumbled, his knock stood apart from typical slogging.
